LAKES DISTRICT IN FINLAND The lakes of the Lakes District in Finland is the largest lake district in Europe. In this part of Finland there is more water than land, which makes the region a natural fisherman's paradise. Cities full of attractions are situated by the waters, the area is covered by thousands of lakes and small islands that form the Lakeland Archipelago. The Lake District is very peaceful and offers a wonderful range of nature and wildlife. Tampere, Kuopio, Finnish Karelia, Lappeenranta and Imatra, Mikkeli and Savonlinna are the main sities of the region. A number of cultural and natural attractions are available for visitors particularly in summer, when the region is the favourite hot spot for the holidaying Finns themselves.
